A recent report provided by the President’s Cancer Panel states that the chemicals-and-cancer link has been “grossly underestimated”. The report says "The American people — even before they are born — are bombarded continually with myriad combinations of these dangerous exposures."
A separate study conducted by researchers from the Washington Toxics Coalition, the Commonweal Biomonitoring Resource Center and the Toxic-Free Legacy Coalition, reveals that bodies of pregnant women are contaminated with toxic chemicals found in consumer products. "This study reveals that children spend their first nine months in an environment that exposes them to known toxic chemicals," said study author Erika Schreder.
More than 70,00 new chemicals have been introduced since the 1950's. Many of these chemicals have been implicated in the rise that we are seeing in many diseases, including some forms of cancer and certain neurological problems. Unfortunately, such harmful substances are commonly found in personal and home care products commonly found on grocery store shelves today. We know that the body readily absorbs substances through our skin which is witnessed with the medications that are now applied to the skin. These transdermal medicines have the same impact on the body as if they are taken by mouth. If the chemicals found in these medicines can be absorbed so easily, maybe we should think about what chemicals are found in the products that we commonly use on our skin.
It has also been reported that the air in our homes & offices is often many times more toxic than the air we breathe outdoors. The products that we use in our homes and work places will impact our overall health. Fortunately, there are numerous, simple and often inexpensive ways that can begin to reduce our exposure to toxic chemicals. The best place to start is in our own homes. We hope that you will join us as we look at just how easy it is to make our homes a safe toxin-free zone.
